I need to rebuild my moving karma. I'd love to help my friends out, god knows they've all helped me tremendously, but my strength and stamina for haul-and-carry is really depleted. Therefore I'm not useful for actually moving stuff.

Moving help for the physically impaired...what does this consist of?

Besides helping to pack, what can a person do to assist with a move if they can't carry heavy things or climb stairs repeatedly? I'm on the lookout for ideas...

or, depending on the crowd, bring beer :)

When I end up moving in a year or three, I'll greatly appreciate packing help. I can lift plenty of heavy things on my own, but packing is something I'm really bad at.

Directing people who can carry stuff...room tetris...coordinating refreshments...just some ideas.

Would driving be excluded for the physically impaired?

yeah, having [livejournal.com profile] watercolorblue drive my car back from my mom's while I drove the truck full of stuff was very helpful.

AFAIC she's paid me enough moving karma with that one for me to help her with several moves.

Actually, when I have a license, I can drive manual. (Still working on getting that renewal.) That's something I'm really good at in fact.

Driving. Providing refreshments. Providing info/directing/coordinating. Providing food. Distracting small children.

There's also packing. Even if someone doesn't want you to actually pack their stuff, you could help by setting up boxes, keeping track of what goes into which box, marking the boxes with numbers, keeping a list of box numbers and what they contain. Even just being there to chat can be helpful -- when I'm packing, if someone else is there hanging out, it's a lot easier for me to stay on task. Otherwise I start flailing around and freaking out about how much there is to do.

There's also UNpacking. Taking stuff out of boxes, putting it places (e.g. books on shelves), breaking down empty boxes and getting them out of the way.

Unpacking is actually very helpful. One of my friends started putting books on shelves and untensils in drawers and such and it really helped to get the boxes out of the way. As long as you tell people where you put things....
