Also, I should really get going and emigrate to Canada or a European country, where I can drive a tiny car and have socialized healthcare, and work within a system that's not set up to destroy a person like me.
Now, I'm an educated woman, and I do realize that the documentary is skewed to get you to agree with their point of view. However, the stories spoke to enough of my own personal experiences that I just felt very disturbed after watching the film.
I was reminded of how my mono was handled back in 2004 when I heard the stories from the American expatriates in France...
"How can you put a limit on sick days? If you're sick, you're sick, you don't go to work." I had a German boss at the time, and that was her exact attitude for several months. Eventually, she got pressured by HER bosses and the administration, and had to come up with complaints about my performance. When I simply couldn't come in because of bronchitis in Dec. 04, I was cited for lack of improvement and fired. Very transparent, but what could I really do? The American system is set up to bash the brains in of the downtrodden, not help them out. The expatriates also said "here [in France] the government is afraid of the people getting angry. In the US, people are afraid of the government." Well gosh, why on earth would American citizens be afraid of our government? Just because it's run by a cokehead alcoholic monkey fuck who's hellbent on being the first American dictator?
Nah, that's not scary at all.
It's all about distributing the power and wealth among a very small percentage of priviledged people. I wasn't born into a priviledged class(1), and I've never had consistently good health. So frankly, it's a miracle I made it as far as I did.
(1)actually, we were below the poverty line my entire childhood, and at my last job, I made over five times what my mother gets now at my last job.
