what a lovely party. and i didn't even have to leave my house to attend it. 'cause it was at MY house! har har. i saw folks, changed dresses three or four times, played music...yay. warm fuzzies.

speaking of music, i've been playing a lot lately.
-thursday night i had an impromptu jam with [livejournal.com profile] loravarnion and [livejournal.com profile] nacht_musik, where i improvised two interesting basslines that can form the basis for songs, and i improv'd on electric cello accompanied by hand drum. ooo, chills.
-friday night [livejournal.com profile] happyfunpaul came over with his guitar. we did the acoustic ballad version of "Take On Me", did some cello-guitar blues...i did a cover of Tori's "Icicle" using pizzicato, and did some more pizz improv after that. next, i picked up paul's guitar and practiced some original tunes.
-tonight (saturday) i covered a few songs during the party on guitar...some ani, some tori, dresden dolls, and original tunes again.
-tomorrow, band. now i see that regular playing is great for my head. i must start practicing regularly. this will get my voice and hands supple again. i'm good, but i'm rusty. need to rebuild confidence.

ideas for practice covers:
-Independence Day (Ani DiFranco)
-Buildings and Bridges (Ani)
-God (Tori Amos)
-Spark (Tori)
-Cornflake Girl (Tori)
-Playboy Mommy (Tori)
-Mr Zebra (Tori)
-Blood Roses (Tori)
-Psycho Killer (Talking Heads)
-Good Day (Dresden Dolls)
-Precious Things (Tori)
-Wrong Band (Tori)
-Sweet Dreams (eurythmics)
-New Age (Velvet Underground)
-Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana)
-Little Earthquakes (Tori)
-Love Will Tear Us Apart (Joy Division)
-New Dawn Fades (Joy Division)
-Bullet (Covenant)
-Rising Sun (Covenant)
-Tyrone (Erykah Badu)
-Santeria (Sublime)
and more...

i usually cover songs to get an interesting interpretation of pieces i really enjoy. now cover tunes are going to take on a new purpose, and that is to get my music chops into working condition again. that's one of the reasons i'm so stiff in band when i try to play my own stuff---it's because i'm rusty and out of practice, so my confidence is less than it would be if i played more often.

i'm also surrounded by many musical humans these days who like to play music with me. it's a great resource, and i intend to keep using it.

nifty.
