[livejournal.com profile] hauntmeister saved the day and offered to drive me to the ER at BWH. i sure was glad. thankyouthankyou thankyou!!

we waited a good 90 minutes, then they did chest X-rays and put me on a nebulizer. (a nebulizer's an inhaler they hook up an oxygen tank to, so you're getting the medication plus oxygen.) it felt so good to be able to breathe freely. the diagnosis is asthma flare-up, caused by minor cold symptoms and stress. they gave me Robitussin with codeine (for nights) and prednisone. we finally got out of there at 4:30 or so (poor Andy!). now i feel considerably better, i have drugs and i am gonna see about getting some sleep.

so, that's good.

thanks, i will :)
the ER doctor also diagnosed me with bronchitis. if i were an average person, the bug would've caused a typical cold. next time i'll be prepared, i think.

Yeah. Turns out it was a rotor cuff spasm, of all things. I have no idea how that happened. I had a massage therapy appointment with Cee after work and she helped me a lot.

I'm glad you finally saw a doctor--did you know you were asthmatic before this, or is this the first time you've been given this particular diagnosis? Also, if you've got bronchitis, they should have given you antibiotics as well; and if they didn't, well, time to start popping the garlic capsules IMHO. Yay for codeine cough syrup, though!

Glad to hear you're feeling better overall--will we be seeing you at the clothing swap tomorrow? *hug*

yay for codeine-guaifenesin syrup!!
i think they decided it wasn't bacterial because there were no fevers associated. what they gave me today has made things multitudes better, and i did try antibiotics when i first got sick...they didn't help at all. bronchitis can be viral, if i remember correctly. they seemed to really know what they were doing in the ER, so i believe 'em.

i knew i had some issues with asthma, but it was always classified as "exercise-induced asthma." no one ever thought to do maintenance for it. my old doctor just sent me away and told me to take OTC cough syrup for it. she's a loser...

i'm certain now that my asthma troubles are stress-related too, due to the times it's cropped up recently:
mid-February=job resignation strife
mid-March=horrible end of a friendship
mid-April=starting a new job
see a pattern? oy.

i do plan to be at the clothing swap tomorrow, barring an unexpected turn of doom for my health. see you there. :-D
