miraculously, i woke up feeling pretty good this morning. i still have a cough, but none of the sore throat-headache BS that i had monday and tuesday. i went right to bed after dinner last night. i did nothing but watch TV and read. now i understand why i'm not a big TV fan...the commercials kept repeating and i had a distinct urge to throw a rock at the TV and make it go away.

my new doctor seems great. she didn't push me out the office door, made sure to get all the details, and even did a complete physical. i failed the pap smear. in other words, she never got to do the actual test because i almost passed out when she tried to do that thing with the speculum. nonetheless, i got FIVE refills for my antidepressant and asthma inhaler both. i'm sorry i didn't get a local physician sooner.

birthday in six days. ehhh....the best part is my smear test got rescheduled for that very morning. YAAAAY...

Why did you almost pass out? Pain, or just general freaked-out-ness?

i got dizzy and flushed...the same way i do when i get blood drawn, and they screw up and have to try more than one vein (and i haven't eaten breakfast). it was a really wierd pain, and for some reason i had visions of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (stupid movie!). i didn't know what to expect, because it was my first pelvic exam ever.

my appointment is tuesday at 9am. i'm considering cancelling, because it's my birthday that day. moral support would be great, but i don't expect you to schlep over to Davis Sq. that early.

Argh! That's the worst day and time possible for me. Ilana gets picked up for daycare at 9:30am on Tuesdays. There's no way I can go. I'm sorry.

Have you ever had anything up in there? Maybe you should get used to it beforehand. I have a cute little vibrator you could borrow (we could put a condom on it).

yeah, i guess i have. i use tampons, etc. i wasn't expecting the exam in the first place, never asked for it, they just sprung it on me along with a general checkup. and i hadn't eaten breakfast. hopefully i'll just be able to get it over with this time.

I hope you're ok. Was it your first one? No need to freak out or anything, do your yoga breaths or chant or something. :) Last one I had came back abnormal, but when they redid it, it came back ok, so it's always a necessary procedure, sexually active or inactive. It's just another one of those things all responsible women have in common that they have to do. It's weird, but I actually look forward to it...I think I just like being reassured everything's ok down there...since one time I had a HUGE cyst I didn't know I had till I went to the doc for that appointment.
