went to UU service...it was nice, I tried not to cough to death. we had sushi afterwards at Bluefin. I have to say, the nigiri was amazing. I could've eaten nothing but red snapper nigiri and been ecstatic. the maki rolls were loosely made and mostly tasty, except for the plum/cucumber rolls, which had only a vague smear of plum paste. if you're into vegetarian sushi, don't bother with Bluefin.

after that, we wandered into the Kotobukiya Asian grocery.

!!!!!!

I've been buying dried seaweed of various varieties for years, and have NEVER seen it available at prices this low.
30 sheets of sushi nori cost...$4.99.
Japanese sushi rice...$1.79.
Plum paste...$1.30.
Dried hijiki seaweed...$2.10!!!

at Harvest you get a flimsy little pack of Nori sheets and they cost 10 bucks!

what I didn't find there were sushi mats, and I forgot to look for wasabi paste. some sesame seeds would be nice too.
once I get the proper equipment and learn the technique I will probably be making vegetarian sushi like a fiend.

trying to stop the snarking, but...
there's just so much of it to go around! I almost can't control myself!
this one here's getting on my nerves because...
and this one here is simply ridiculous, I mean come on, people, can you believe...

there's so much snark, that I become genuinely angry at some points.
rather than write about it in detail even privately, I'm gonna listen to some good music and draw pictures. the distraction method works better than anything else, for me anyway.

it's just unneccessary to go on about how much people suck, instead of doing something I rock at, am I right?

it's amazing what can happen when you simply ask someone "hey, how ya feelin'?"
[livejournal.com profile] bluepapercup has a nasty cold right now. so I make a wee effort and drop her an IM. we commiserate about our respiratory health for a bit, and then she says "hey, do you want chicken soup? I can bring you some."

!!!!!

I didn't know there was a soup fairy!!!

I mean, I don't get this from everybody, [livejournal.com profile] bluepapercup is just that sort of person.

[for the record, I am eating some of the soup right now and it is deeeelicious...yumyumyum]

turns out I may be riding out to western MA with her Thursday, instead of taking the train or bus.
my day just got even better!!!

rad. :-D
