when you're putting out a personals ad just for the hell of it ( because it's FREE)...what exactly counts, in the realm of body types, for "average" versus "a few extra pounds"? how much is a few? in general, i consider myself to be in the "extra" category, but just barely. i've had about six guys email me who had profiles listing them as "a few extra pounds" and all i can see in their pictures is fat cheeks and facial hair. they look like unshaven squirrel heads atop marshmallow bodies. i, on the other hand, can still wear vinyl pants and look good. can i use that as a criteria to call myself "average"?

honestly, if i had to compare myself to a visually recognizable celebrity, i'd say i look more like Kelly Osbourne than anyone else on TV. we have the same body type. what category does she fall into?

*experiment time!*

furthermore, i just changed my profile the other day to incorporate a better picture and list mySELF as average and cut out the "few extra pounds" category from my match profile (since so many of the users are too liberal with that term, in my opinion).....and my result was that i've gotten twice as many emails in ONE DAY than i received in the past TWO WEEKS under "a few extra pounds". what a bunch of shit, huh?

asshole factor-

When you're testing any group of people or experimenting in any social sitiation be it polictical, economical, anthropological, sociological, psychological, biological or otherwise, you must never forget that a certain amount of your population are going to be assholes.

I live by this rule, though rarely count myself as an asshole.

Ok, so I came back.

Heh, this cracked me right up. I tried the personals thing (http://www.livejournal.com/talkread.bml?journal=tlc71076&itemid=129361&nc=76) a couple weeks ago and though I got 70 responses in the 2 days I had it up, I didn't find one person who I'd even marginally consider dating. But that isn't my point here.

Few extra pounds. I wish they would have a clarifier on that. I was reading through the ads of my "competition" and someone had listed herself as 5'5, 240lbs and under the 'few extra pounds' category. I'm not sure how they work it, but 240 seems a bit more than a few extra pounds. Of course, in my responses I had men say they were a few extra pounds or (and this is my favorite) 'cuddly'. Then I look at the picture, and like you said, "unshaven squirrel heads atop marshmallow bodies". Definitely need a clarifier there. :)
