exhausted and ADRENALINE-FILLED
got home from hanging out in Lowell, found 4 ENORMOUS lively spiders guarding the door...one of them is a fucking mutant the size of my outer thumb joint and brightly-patterned. one was ON the door which terrified me...then I saw that my inside light of my car was on and I needed to shut it off so I had to do battle with them AGAIN....
I've found a few ants on my pillow so far.
life is not good.

i can take the broom to the spiders (or you can) -- they don't bother me, but they can be upsetting. *hugs*!

i'm a bit more worried about the ants -- do you keep food upstairs? they've come into the house twice before (destroyed a bottle of honey) and i ended up spraying bug spray over their tracks (they were entering by the front door...)

no food upstairs---just water. there was one exception, I did eat one bowl of ice cream up here and forget to take the bowl back downstairs for two days. that has been remedied. otherwise, no foods. I've taken a broom to the spiders many times, but there's one in particular that I'm petrified of because it looks like a painted Amazon warrior. seriously, it belongs in a rainforest, I've never seen a spider like that. (their webs are beautiful though, I should take photos during daylight.)

I'm not particularly fond of spiders myself, and the ones that hang out by the front door are pretty large. I've found two solutions to the problem. If I'm planning to open the door after dark, either to leave or to return from having gone out during the daytime, I turn on the porch light. That seems to send them away after a few minutes most of the time.

The other solution is much more reliable but harder to accomplish sometimes, which is to have Lyonesse move them away for me :-)

*nods* the spiders there do get impressive. i'll be in no reading (probably just planning for the barn) today -- phone me if you want me to come by and relocate any webs, or i can do it next time i stay over (possibly tomorrow, or possibly not -- i'm catsitting locally for a bit....)
