couple of random things

1. musician ego is bullshit. people get more jealous over musical parts than they do over sexual partners. and god forbid you should be able to play something with more skill than someone else, you'll be resented for the rest of your life. this is how I lost my best friend in 4th grade. it's insane.

2. I want a real martini. the old-fashioned kind. the one that tastes harsh and ambivalent, just like life. I will wear something black and frilly when I consume it. and I'd smoke a cigar at the same time, perhaps, except that I can't get one to light...ever...

3. people surreptitiously avoid me in public when I listen to Joy Division on my headset. this doesn't happen when I listen to, say, Ani Difranco. the depressing, nihilistic quality of the music affects a mood change, which is then displayed on my face. I look morose, therefore no one bugs me. maybe I should investigate this further with a scientific study.

independence day?

furthermore, not that I particularly care about July 4th, but is anyone doing anything casual that I can invite myself along to do? I'm very low-maintenance about this holiday, but I'd like to be with friends.

I do get Monday off. Three-day weekend! That, and I have the house to myself starting tomorrow. Roommate's going to Baltimore for the weekend.
If I had a grill, I'd do a cookout...
