I kinda feel like a fake Joy Division fan, because I didn't really get into them until I was 23. But now I can't get away from them. Somehow this band hits the nail on the head and I can't stop listening. I'm well aware that JD is a depressing band, especially lyrically. But for me, the JD's a useful tool for pouring out my melodrama, when I have an excess of emotions that I need to purge. Their SOUND gets me.
Sometimes I wonder if it's pathetic to regard 20-year-old music as if it's current. A lot of my favorite bands broke up long ago, or have dead members, and the like. My Bloody Valentine? The Smiths? Siouxsie and the Banshees? Lush? Cocteau Twins? Slowdive? Clash? Talk Talk? They're done. Obviously, no one's waiting for the next Smiths album to come out. In terms of new bands, I don't really know what's going on. Should I feel bad?
NAH! Fuck that!
Here's to living in the past musically, until something worthwhile presents itself. Cheers!!
:)
Footnote...I really wish I'd been in town last night to grab a martini with
lyonesse and
bikergeek. Damn! That would've been the ideal Saturday night excursion. I was at my mom's reading a Feng Shui book instead. Raincheck? *looks hopeful*
