more adventures in dyeing yarn

I dyed more yarn with koolaid yesterday, and made a hat from it today. This one came out better than the last. Now I'm getting the feel for dyeing variegated yarns. I tried a new trick this time, adding some concentrated blue food-color to blue koolaid for a darker shade---it worked well. The key components of koolaid are food dye and ascorbic acid---so if you add pigment to the acidic mixture, you'll get a darker shade. Mmm, intense aqua blue....delicious.

Flavors used for this batch:
black cherry
strawberry
orange
tropical punch
ice blue raspberry lemonade (with and without added color)

Pictures to come.

One thing that's a bit annoying about hand-dyeing Peruvian wool: it felts a little bit during the dyeing process. The yarn sticks together a little bit as I wind it into a ball, and it's not quite as smooth and soft afterwards.
But hey, it's bright and pretty and smells fruity. So I think it's a win.
